Ventura Water Damage Restoration Built Around Wet Winters
Ventura can go months without meaningful rain, then take a season's worth in a week. The water damage restoration Ventura homeowners call us for splits into those two seasons: winter storms and surf on one side, quiet indoor plumbing leaks on the other. Our crew handles both.

A Dry City With Violent Winters
Rainfall here averages only about 13 inches a year, with February typically the wettest month. Most of it arrives in a few big systems, and that concentration is what causes damage.
The Ventura River in January 2023
On January 9, 2023, Ventura River flows peaked above 35,000 cubic feet per second, according to the Ventura River Ecosystem project. Overbank water spread through farmland and an RV park and was high enough to cross Highway 101 and stop traffic. The city's own Buenaventura Golf Course took enough floodwater to leave thick mud across the course.
Surf in Pierpont
Late in December 2023, a heavy-surf event sent a wave over the retaining walls along Pierpont. Water surged across a beach parking lot and into streets, eight people went to hospitals, and a beachfront motel was damaged. Crews spent the afternoon clearing mud.
The Other Ten Months: Indoor Leaks
Ventura's homes are middle-aged. The Census Bureau estimates the median year built at 1973, with about six in ten homes built before 1980 and a quarter before 1960. That's prime territory for supply-line failures, slab leaks, water heater failures and worn shower pans, and in a dry climate, nobody is looking for water until a floor feels soft.
Our Restoration Steps
- Make safe: source stopped, power off to wet rooms.
- Remove water: extraction from floors, carpet and pad.
- Measure: meters and thermal imaging trace moisture behind walls and under floors.
- Clean what's dirty: storm and surf water is treated as contaminated; affected porous materials come out.
- Dry and verify: dehumidifiers and air movers, with readings logged on each visit.
- Rebuild: drywall, flooring, cabinets and paint once readings are normal.

Ventura Local Notes
Ventura Water, the city's utility, relies entirely on local supplies: water from Lake Casitas, purchased through the Casitas Municipal Water District; water drawn from the Ventura River near Foster Park; and groundwater from basins on the city's east side. The lake and river supplies mainly serve the west side and midtown, while groundwater mainly serves the east side.
The city organizes neighborhood input through seven community councils: Westside, Downtown, Midtown, College Area, East Ventura, Pierpont and Montalvo. Locals also use names like Ventura Keys and Saticoy for areas within the city. Under NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for a nearby station, roughly four-fifths of the year's rain falls from December through March, so most water calls tied to weather come in that window.
About one in five housing units here sits in a building of five or more units, so condo and apartment leaks that cross between units are part of our work too. River and coastal flooding affects a few specific corridors, while plumbing failures can happen anywhere in town.
Ventura FAQ
Does homeowners insurance cover surf or river flooding?
Rising water from a river or the ocean is usually excluded from standard homeowners policies and handled through flood insurance. A burst pipe is a different matter, so the source matters.
Who supplies my water, and who do I call about the meter?
Inside city limits, that's Ventura Water. If your water shuts off from the street side, contact them; inside the house, a plumber and our crew take over.
My house was dry during the storm but the ceiling stained a week later. Why?
Water can travel along roof framing and sit on top of drywall before it shows. That's worth checking with a moisture meter.
